Welcome to Our Vineyard
OUR STORY
We have always had the desire to run a vineyard on the farm. Towthorpe is a cool climate vineyard located just outside York at 54⁰ North. We take advantage of the benefits of our location close to the River Foss to create both delicate and full flavoured wines. We believe by adopting an artisan approach we can optimise every stage of the wine making process, to bring out the best from each and every grape bunch, creating the perfect wine in the glass.
THE START
In April 2018, we started the vineyard with our first plantings of Bacchus and Solaris. We have a south facing block, which is well protected, and ideal for growing grapes. We planted the rows at 2m spacings with the vines 1.3m apart to allow for maximum sunlight on the grapes. The vineyard continues to expand and we now have 12grape varieties on site with plans to extend further in 2026.
MAKING THE WINE
Our small onsite winery built in 2021 allows us to process our grapes on site. Converted from an old stable, it has all the facitlites we need to run small batch quality wine production. Our winemaker Peter has been working on balancing the grapes we can produce, with the styles of wine we all like to drink.
